Apparently I experienced four of the five biggest life changes in a matter of one month.
My husband and I were sitting around a big dinner table with a friend – munching on hamburgers – while talking about the recent changes in our life. There was a pause in the conversation and then the memorable words…
“Wow, you have made it through some serious change!”
And in my head, I was gloating. Yes, we have, haven’t we?
But my heart felt the truth – the reality that I do not like change, that making it through those drastic transitions was difficult, and that there were times when I wanted to curl into a small ball and cry.
And then I remembered the sweet reassurances from our Almighty God throughout all of those terrifying changes.
Through it all, God taught me some pretty huge lessons and turned my attitude about change right around.
Those four major life transitions I was talking about? Let’s just say I graduated college, married the sweetest guy for me, moved across the country, and started graduate school in about a month’s time.
People kept asking me “Wow! Are you doing okay? That’s so much change!” And I would plaster on a confident smile and answer with a solid “Oh, it’s been great!”
But God knew my heart.
God knew that I felt lonely and scared and tired and excited all at once. Yes, it was great. But it was also really quite hard if I do say so myself.
In the midst of this trememdous life change, God gave me the gift of His truth. He gave me reasons why this whole change thing is really okay. I would be lying if I said that any of this came from me, because I am weak. But all praise be to the God who chooses to be strong in our weakness. He chooses to comfort and hold his hurting children.
Here are 10 Bible verses about change – reasons to believe that the change you’re going through really will be okay.
Psalm 32:8 | “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide and advise you.”
You are not alone when change feels unbearable. God is right beside you – directing your steps, guiding your heart, protecting you.
Numbers 23:19 | “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said and will He not do? Does He promise and will He not fulfill?”
The world will fail us. But we serve a God who keeps His promises, who does what He says He will do!
Hebrews 13:8 | “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Do you believe that, my friend? When the world seems to be shifting all around you, when life gets a little tricky, Jesus remains the same. His promises do not change. His convenant of grace does not change. His character does not change. Hold fast to this truth.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 | “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
Wow. Enough said. Our change – however simple or hurtful – is temporary. There is a kingdom purpose!
Malachi 3:6 | “For am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”
No matter your circumstances & no matter how much change you experience, the Lord does not change. He is the same. His promises remain true!
Revelation 21:5-6 | “Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, ‘Write, for these words are true and faithful.’ And He said to me, ‘It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End…”
God is making all things new. He is the start and the finish. He will deliver you from the seemingly scary amount of change you feel. It will end in glory!
Hebrews 11:8 | “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Oh my, I cannot imagine. I knew where I was going when I experienced intense change, but Abraham had faith that God would lead, provide, protect. Faith is bigger than any change.
Deuteronomy 31:8 | “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you or farsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
God goes before you. He will not leave.
Psalm 40:2 | “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.”
Do you believe that God established your steps? The steps you are taking now – God planned those. Believe in Him. Trust Him.
1 John 3:2 | “Beloved, now we children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
All of the change in the world cannot crowd out the promise that we will become like Jesus when He is revealed again on earth. Put your hope here!
No, the change I experienced was not easy. Getting married, moving across the country, and starting graduate school within the span of a month was never my plan.
But sometimes we have to choose to set aside our plans in order to allow God to work in His mighty & powerful ways.
Friend, believe that change is okay. Believe that God’s purposes are bigger & better & more glorious than you could imagine!
And that change you’re going through? It will be okay.
